The Japanese major was founded in 1983, and was granted the right to grant the master's degree in Japanese Language and literature in 2007. Foreign language and literature is the key discipline of Hunan Province. In 2021, 2022 and 2023, it has been awarded the A-class major of Soft Science Ranking of Chinese universities for three consecutive years, and it is the provincial first-class undergraduate professional construction point. At present, there are 12 full-time teachers, the teacher-student ratio is 1:6, 4 doctorate teachers, 5 senior teachers, all teachers have overseas study or work experience, is a professional, high quality, dedicated to educating people teaching and research team. In recent years, Japanese teachers have presided over 5 provincial and ministerial scientific research projects, published more than 10 academic monographs and translations, and published more than 30 high-level papers in authoritative academic journals at home and abroad. Teachers won 2 national teaching competition awards, provincial teaching competition awards; Guided students to participate in various disciplines at all levels and achieved remarkable results, and won more than 40 awards at the regional level and above.
Japanese teaching is divided into undergraduate and graduate levels. With the specialty characteristics of "multi-language cross-integration, undergraduate and doctoral training, industry-university-research collaboration, and international cooperation in running schools", the University has signed agreements with Chiba University, Akita University, Kagoshima University, and Shiga Prefecture University to exchange students, and the exchange rate of students in each academic year exceeds 50%. Over the years, professional students have participated in the college Japanese major test of Level 4, Level 8, Japanese proficiency test N1, N2 and other foreign language tests, and the passing rate is much higher than the national average. The graduation rate exceeds 40%, and the employment rate is 100% for many years in a row. Graduates are active in foreign affairs, economy and trade, culture, journalism, education, scientific research and other fields.
